THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's swim team heads to California for its first competitions of the 2003-04 season...the Cougars take on San Jose State and Nevada in San Jose, Friday, Oct. 17, at 4 p.m...WSU heads to Berkeley for a Noon meet at California Saturday, Oct. 18...the dual meet against the Golden Bears is the first Pac-10 competition of the 2003-04 season for the Cougars.

COACH QUAM: WSU Head Coach Erica Quam is in her second season as the women's swimming coach.

THIS SEASON: The Cougars added 12 newcomers to the 10 returning letter winners.

LAST SEASON: The Cougars finished ninth in the Pac-10 last season...finished 41st at NCAA's...senior Lindsay Henahan placed 16th in the 100 butterfly, WSU's first All-American since 2000.

ACADEMICS: WSU finished third in the nation academically spring semester 2003 (3.5)...Cougars finished second in the fall of 2002 with a GPA of 3.533.

UP NEXT: The team next competes in the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas, Nov. 7-8...competition Friday begins at 3 p.m...Saturday competition begins at 9 a.m.
