This Saturday, October 18, the Bruin men will compete at the Pre-National Invitational, hosted by Northern Iowa. The meet will be held at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course/Byrnes Park in Waterloo, IA. UCLA will run in the Purple 8K at 9:00 AM PST. Seven of the top-10 teams in the nation will compete at the meet. Leading the 74-team field are No. 1 Stanford, No. 3 Northern Arizona, No. 4 Brigham Young and No. 5 Colorado.
The meet will mark the first time this season that the Bruins will run at full strength. Leading the way are the top-three returners from the 2002 season, juniors Ben Aragon, Erik Emilsson and Jon Rankin. Rankin will be running in his second meet this season, after debuting last weekend with a victory at the Triton Classic. Also running are sophomores Martell Munguia and Mohammed Qazi and redshirt freshman Chad Galbreath. And, rounding out the Bruin squad are freshmen Austin Ramos and Micky Cobrin, who finished one-two, respectively, at the Big Wave Invitational and Stanford Invitational.
Looking ahead, the Bruins will compete at the Cal State Fullerton Invite on October 24 and the Pac-10 Championships, hosted by Washington State in Pullman, WA, on November 1.
