The defending national champion UCLA Bruins, ranked No. 1 in all polls this week, take on New Mexico in a non-conference tilt Thursday night, then open their Pac-10 home slate with FRESNO STATE on Sunday... The Bruins will attempt to extend a six-game winning streak... The No. 8/No. 9 WASHINGTON Huskies, who own a 3-0-1 record away from their home field, travel to NR/No. 22 CALIFORNIA and STANFORD.... OREGON STATE also heads south to the Bay Area schools... Pac-10 teams have posted a 26-17-3 mark (.598) against non-conference opponents this season.

PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEKOREGON STATE freshman midfielder Carlos Cornejo has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 6-13.
Cornejo, from Torrance, Calif., accounted for both game-winning goals in a pair of Oregon State victories at Stanford and California. Last week, he notched his first career goal in a 1-0 win over the Cardinal on Oct. 10. Two days later, he scored the game-winner in OSU's 2-0 win against the Golden Bears.
By pulling out two tough victories last week, the Beavers improved their record to 9-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Pac-10. OSU, ranked No. 17 in this week's Soccer America poll, plays host to No. 8/7 Washington on Sunday.
This is the first weekly honor for Cornejo and the seventh all-time Player of the Week honor for the Beavers.

PAC-10 MEN'S SOCCER NOTES
CALIFORNIA: The Golden Bears played No. 8 Washington to a 1-1 tie and fell to Oregon State, 2-0, to open Pac-10 play last week... Cal out shot its Conference opponents a combined 36-19 in the two matches... SO F Pieter Berger evened the score against the Huskies in the 54th minute, notching his first goal of the season... SO GK Mike Oseguera ranks third in the league in goals against average (0.78), while the Bears rank third in goals allowed (1.17 avg).
FRESNO STATE: The Bulldogs host Stanford and California this week as they attempt to snap a three-game losing skid... All three losses have been shutouts, the longest scoreless streak for Fresno State since the 1998 season... SR F Matt Herold recorded a team-high two shots, including one on-goal, against a Bruin defense that surrenders just 0.36 goals per game... SO GK Eric Kronberg paces the Pac-10 in saves (63), averaging a league-high 5.73 per game
OREGON STATE: FR MF Carlos Cornejo accounted for both game-winnning goals in a pair of Oregon State victories last week... Cornejo scored his first career goal in a 1-0 win at Stanford, then followed with the game-winner in a 2-0 win at California two days later... SR GK Peter Billmeyer posted his second and third consecutive shutouts, with the wins over the Cardinal and Golden Bears... Billmeyer has posted a Pac-10 second-best five blankings on the season and a school-record 15 for his career... SR F Alan Gordon is the Pac-10 co-leader in points (21) and game-winning goals (4).
STANFORD: The Cardinal dropped its second and third Pac-10 games in a row last week, falling by identical 1-0 scores to Oregon State and No. 8 Washington... The Cardinal managed just two shots against the Beavers, but outshot the Huskies 14-8, just the third time this season Stanford has outshot an opponent... Against UW, JR GK Robby Fulton moved into the top spot on Stanford's all-time goals against average list, surpassing the minimum 2500 career minutes needed... Fulton posts a lifetime 0.52 GAA.
UCLA: SR F Matt Taylor registered seven points in two Bruin wins last week, including a pair of game-winning goals against New Mexico and Fresno State... Taylor leads the Conference in goals (10) and is the co-leader in points (21) and game-winning goals (4)... UCLA has posted three straight shutout victories and has seven on the season... The Bruins have outscored their opponents 7-0 in the last three matches combined... SR GK Zach Wells paces the Pac-10 in goals against average (0.29), shutouts (6) and save percentage (.929).
WASHINGTON: Coming off a 1-0-1 showing at Cal and Stanford, the Huskies have won seven of their last nine matches... SR GK Danny Waltman recorded his fourth shutout of the season with a 1-0 win over Stanford, snapping a five-game losing streak against the Cardinal dating back to the 2000 season... FR D Will Flanagan netted his first collegiate goal against the Cardinal... JR F Brett Wiesner made his first start of 2003 at Stanford, easing his way back into the lineup following a preseason hamstring injury... UW ranks second in the Pac-10 in goals allowed (8), while Waltman is second in goals against average (0.71).
