Action Continues at West Coast ITA Regional

EUGENE, Ore. - Four Stanford singles and two pairs will continue in championship play after wins on Friday at the West Coast Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional at the Student Tennis Center. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the Nov. 6-9 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan.
Fifth-seeded sophomore James Pade defeated Hawaii's Jarrod Dieparam 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the round of 32 on Saturday against Patrick Briaud of Cal. Cardinal freshman James Wan downed Oregon's Eric Pickard 6-2, 6-1. He will next face No. 9-seed Andre Sion. Stanford junior Phil Sheng advances after a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Gonzaga's Drew Ernst. Sheng will take on ninth-seeded Sven Swinnen of Oregon. Seeded No. 2, Cardinal junior Sam Warburg received a bye in the first roud and will see action on Saturday againt Nick Weiss of Washington.
Senior Joe Kao fell to Portland's Quinn Borchard 7-6, 6-2. Freshman Eric McKean was defeated by St. Mary's Dino Ferrari in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Fellow freshman Chris Rasmussen was downed by No. 3-seed Manuel Kost of Oregon 6-3, 6-2. Stanford's redshirt senior Carter Morris was handed a loss from seventh-seeded Wayne Wong after three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Cardinal resume action in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
In doubles play, McKean paired with Pade to defeat Gonzaga duo Bryce Cooper and Drew Ernst 8-3. The Cardinal pair will face fifth-seeded Tyler Browne and Dean Wallace of Cal on Saturday. Seeded No. 4, the Stanford pairing of Morris and Warburg advanced after an 8-1 win over St. Mary's Adam Fauvre and J.J. Whitlinger. They will next take on Washington's Scott Felsenthal and Michael Ricks.
Stanford's Kao and Rasmussen fell 8-3 to Cal's Andreas Peterson and John Pettit. The Cardinal duo of Wan and Sheng were downed 8-5 by the fifth-seeded Portland pairing of Quinn Borchard and Roman Borvanov.
