Ferris Leads Beavers At Stanford Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif.- -

Oregon State senior Kelly Ferris fired a first-round 2-over 74, just one stroke shy of her career low, as the women's golf team shot 306 in the first round Friday at the Stanford Intercollegiate at the par-72 Stanford Golf Course.

Ferris is tied for 40th and the Beavers are alone in 16th against a very tough field including six of the top ten teams in the nation. Senior Laura Skinner and sophomore Leah Whiting are just two strokes behind Ferris and are tied for 55th.

Washington, ranked 28th in the latest Golfweek poll, leads top-ranked Duke by one stroke and fifth-ranked UCLA by three strokes after shooting an 8-under 280.

Individually, Pepperdine's Carolina Llano carded a 5-under 67 and is the leader by a one-stroke margin over Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo.

Freshman Lindsay Eide and junior Alex Lucio both posted an 80 and are tied for 82nd.

The second round begins Saturday at 8:00 a.m.
