Stanford Notches Draw Against No. 3 UCLA

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's soccer team took No. 3 UCLA (9-1-3/2-0-1 Pac-10) into two overtime periods before Friday's match ended in a 0-0 tie at Maloney Field. The draw brings the Cardinal record to 6-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in Pac-10 Conference play this season.
After the first period, Stanford held the slight advantage in shots with six to the Bruins' four. Cardinal Jennifer Farenbaugh and Natalie Sanderson each tallied a shots in the opening period that resulted in UCLA goalkeeper Sarah Lombardo's first two saves of the evening.
Bruin senior Sarah-Gayle Swanson opened the second period with an attempt at 45:59 that went high. Another shot by UCLA's Jill Oakes at 62:10 looked like a major scoring opportunity for the Bruins before a Nicole Barnhart save. Regulation ended with UCLA outshooting the Cardinal 18-12.
In overtime, UCLA was able to get off six shot attempts and held Stanford to two attempts. By the matches end, Barnhart would tally seven saves and her fifth shutout of the season. The Cardinal were led by Natalie Sanderson with five of Stanford's 14 total shots, one on goal. UCLA wrapped up the match with 24 shots, led by Stacy Lindstrom, Stephanie Kron, Lindsey Greco and Iris Mora with three attempts.
The Cardinal continue Pac-10 play at Maloney Field on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. against USC.
