Women's Golf in Seventh Place at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The second-ranked Arizona women's golf team stands in seventh place Friday after its first day of competition at the Stanford Women's Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif.
The Wildcats shot an 4-over-par 292 to trail first-round leader Washington by 12 strokes after the Huskies shot a 8-under-par 280. Duke (281) and UCLA (283) occupy second and third places, respectively. California stands in fourth after carding 1-over-par 289. New Mexico (290) and Vanderbilt (290) are tied at fifth.
Individually Arizona sophomore Erica Blasberg is tied for seventh place with six other golfers after shooting a first round 70 (-2). The sophomore from Corona, Calif. first career title came at last year's Stanford Women's Intercollegiate after she shot a 5-under-par 211.
Sophomore Whitney Welch is tied for 29th place after shooting 1-over-par 73 in round one. Sophomore Lani Elston is tied for 40th at 2-over-par 74. While junior Mar Garcia is tied for 46th after shooting 3-over-par 75. Junior Miriam Kraschinksi is tied for 76th, 79(+7).
Also competing for Arizona as an individual is sophomore Katie Christy, who is tied for 93rd place after carding 14-over-par 86.
The Wildcats will tee off in Saturday's second round beginning at 8:00 a.m. PST. The tournament is being played at Stanford Golf Course, a par 72, 6,107-yard layout.
