Medlock Ends Deadlock With Game-Winning Field Goal In OT

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - Drew Olson threw for two touchdowns, Brandon Chillarran 65 yards to score after a blocked field goal, then Justin Medlock kicked a41-yard field goal in overtime as UCLA outlasted California 23-20 on Saturday.
Trailing since early in the game, the Bears rallied for a touchdown and2-point conversion with 11 seconds remaining to force overtime. Their comebackended, however, when Tyler Frederickson's 50-yard field-goal attempt hit theleft upright.
The Bruins (5-2, 3-0 Pac-10) got the ball first in overtime and managed just1 yard on two rushes before Olson threw an incomplete pass. Medlock thentrotted on and drilled his kick.
The Bears (3-5, 1-2) wound up with a longer field-goal try after AaronRodgers dumped the ball off to Adimchinobe Echemandu on third-and-9 from the24. Echemandu tried to reverse his field and scramble into the open - butinstead was dropped for a 9-yard loss.
Olson finished 9-of-20 for 173 yards.
Rodgers threw a 35-yard scoring pass to Burl Toler on fourth-and-10 with 11seconds left in regulation. Toler caught the pass at the 2 and spun over thegoal line as a defender hit him.
Rodgers then rolled right and threw to Echemandu, who was just over the goalline, for the 2-point conversion to tie it at 20.
Rodgers, who finished 28-of-41 for 222 yards, engineered the 68-yard scoringdrive that started with 2:19 remaining.
The Bruins had blown the PAT after their fourth-quarter touchdown, or theywould have had a nine-point lead.
Spencer Havner twice blocked Frederickson's field goal tries, the secondresulting in Chillar's fourth-quarter touchdown as the Bears were threateningto take the lead.
Trailing 14-3, the Bears closed within two points with a field goal and atouchdown in a 2:19 span of the third quarter.
After Frederickson kicked a 39-yarder, the Bears got the ball back on theUCLA 6 when Wendell Hunter recovered Olson's fumble. The Bruins' quarterbacklost the ball as he was being sacked by Monte Parson.
Two plays later, Rodgers scored on a quarterback draw from 3 yards out. Hispass on the 2-point conversion attempt sailed high over the head of GeoffMcArthur.
Frederickson made a 47-yarder with 2:51 left in the first quarter aftermissing a 51-yard attempt earlier. The Bruins' Havner blocked Frederickson's34-yard try midway through the second quarter.
On the ensuing series, Ebell ran 82 yards to an apparent touchdown, but itwas called back and the Bruins were penalized for holding on the play.
The Bears have lost two in a row after upsetting No. 4 Southern California34-31 in triple overtime. Cal lost 35-21 to Oregon State, then had a bye beforefacing UCLA.
