Matt Taylor Named National Player of the Week
Oct. 20, 2003
UCLA senior forward Matt Taylor (Irvine, CA/Irvine HS) was selected as the National Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 19 by College Soccer News.
Taylor scored three goals and had two assists this weekend as UCLA posted wins over California (4-2) and Stanford (3-0) to stay undefeated in Pac-10 Conference play at the halfway mark. Against Cal on Friday, Taylor contributed two goals, including the game-winner, and had an assist. In Sunday's match against Stanford, he scored the game-winner again and assisted on another to help the Bruins notch their fourth consecutive shutout win over the Cardinal and their 10th straight win overall.
So far this season, Taylor has 13 goals, three assists and 29 points in just 12 games played. He has already established a new single-season high for goals scored and tied the school record with four multiple-goal games this season. He has six game-winning goals, just two away from the school single-season record, and he has upped his career game-winning goals total to 12, which ranks fifth on UCLA's all-time list.
The national honor is the first for a UCLA player this year. Taylor has been named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week twice this season.
