THIS WEEK IN PAC-10 WOMEN'S SOCCER

In games involving three of the four top teams in the Conference, ARIZONA STATE travels to the Los Angeles schools this week... The Sun Devils look to avenge a pair of shutout losses to UCLA and USC last season, including a 1-0 double-overtime loss to the Trojans... Unbeaten in three of its last four games, STANFORD has allowed just one goal in its last three matches combined... The Bay Area schools head north to Oregon and Oregon State this week... In traditional rivalry action, WASHINGTON STATE, winless in away games, takes on WASHINGTON Friday night in Seattle.

PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
STANFORD junior goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 14-20.

Barnhart, from Gilbertsville, Pa., led the Cardinal to back-to-back shutouts against No. 3 UCLA and No. 18 USC for her fifth and sixth shutouts on the season. Against the Bruins on Oct. 17, Barnhart recorded seven saves off 24 shots as Stanford played UCLA to a scoreless tie. In the 2-0 upset over the No. 18 Trojans on Oct. 19, she recorded four saves, which pushed her career mark to 112 saves. Barnhart currently ranks first in the Stanford record books with a 0.77 career goals against average and ranks third all-time with 28 career shutouts.

The Cardinal held UCLA scoreless for the first time in nine matches and advanced its record to 7-6-2 overall, 2-1-1 in Pac-10 play. With the consecutive wins against the ranked Los Angeles schools, Stanford reentered the Soccer America rankings this week at No. 17. Stanford heads north this weekend for games at Oregon and Oregon State.

This is Barnhart's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Stanford's 13th weekly honor all-time.

PAC-10 WOMEN'S SOCCER NOTES

ARIZONA: FR F Lauren Winters scored her first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute as the Wildcats played No. 24 Arizona State to a 1-1 tie... The tie ended an eight-game losing skid to the Sun Devils and brought an overall four-game losing streak to an end... The Tie also ended a string of 25 straight losses to opponents ranked in the NSCAA/Adidas coaches' poll... JR F Candice Wilks has either scored or assisted on eight of Arizona's 19 goals this season.

ARIZONA STATE: The Sun Devils' 1-1 tie at Arizona kept their unbeaten streak in the all-time series (9 games) alive... FR F/MF Courtney Crane scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute... Arizona State ranks first or second in the Pac-10 in five of six offensive categories: points (2nd, 78), goals (1st, 28), goals per game (1st, 2.15 avg), assists (t2nd, 22) and assists per game (2nd, 1.69 avg)... ASU is the Pac-10 co-leader in goals allowed (11) and ranks second in shutouts (6).

CALIFORNIA: The Bears suffered their first home losses of the season last week, falling by identical 1-0 scores to USC and UCLA... FR GK Anna Key made five saves on the weekend, while SO F Tracy Hamm paced the Bears with five shots on-goal in the two matches combined... Cal paces the Conference in goals against average (0.75) and is the Pac-10 co-leader in goals allowed (11)... The Golden Bears are tied for second in shutouts with six on the year.

OREGON: The Ducks return to Eugene, opening their Pac-10 home slate this week against Stanford and California... Oregon is coming off a pair of 2-0 losses at Washington State and Washington... The Duck offense has featured nine different goal scorers this season, just one shy of the school record... SO F Mele French ranks 10th on the UO all-time top-10 list in goals (5).

OREGON STATE: The Beavers posted a 1-0-1 record on the road last week... FR GK Melissa Onstad, the Pac-10 saves leader, led the Beavers to a 2-0 shutout of No. 10 Washington and allowed just one goal in 110 minutes of action against Washington State... Onstad posted 14 saves on the weekend, six against the Huskies and eight versus the Cougars, including one in each overtime period... SO F Tessa Baker notched her eighth goal of the season and added an assist in the win over UW... Baker ranks second in the league in goals and is tied for second in points (18).

STANFORD: The Cardinal played No. 3 UCLA to a scoreless tie and upset No. 18 USC 2-0 last week to improve to 2-1-1 in Pac-10 play... JR GK Nicole Barnhart posted back-to-back shutouts, her fifth and sixth of the season, and improved her goals against average to 0.77... The six shutouts this year is tied for the Conference lead... Barnhart now has 28 career shutouts, good enough for third in the Stanford record books.

UCLA: The Bruins defeated Cal and played Stanford to a scoreless tie in road games last week... The Cardinal match marked the first time the Bruins were held scoreless in nine matches, dating back to a scoreless tie with UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 3... In the win over the Bears, SR F Sarah-Gayle Swanson recorded her second game-winning goal of the season... Swanson now ranks second on the squad in scoring (12 points)... JR GK Sarah Lombardo ranks second in the league in goals against average (0.76).

USC: The Trojans split games at Cal and Stanford last week, edging the Bears 1-0 and falling 2-0 to Stanford... SO F Tina Sutorius, from nearby Pleasanton, Calif., scored USC's lone goal in the match in Berkeley... The victory was the 100th for Head Coach Jim Millinder, who now posts a 100-47-13 record in eight seasons with the Women of Troy... JR GK Julie Peterson recorded her Pac-10 co-leading sixth shutout of the season, making five saves against Cal... Peterson tied the school career mark with her 14th shutout... Sunday's match against Arizona State will be the regular-season home finale for USC.

WASHINGTON: The Huskies defeated Oregon and fell to Oregon State last week, their first loss to the Beavers since 1994... The 2-0 setback was UW's first against an unranked opponent this season, while the two-goal deficit marked the first time all season that Washington trailed by more than one goal... In the 2-0 win over the Ducks, SR F Melissa Bennett recorded her school-record 28th career assist, setting the stage for UW's opening goal... The Huskies maintained their unbeaten streak against Oregon in the all-time series (7-0-1)... FR GK Kelsey Rasmussen posted her second shutout in just her second career start in the win over UO.

WASHINGTON STATE: The Cougars defeated Oregon and played Oregon State to a 1-1 tie last week, improving to 1-2-1 in Conference action... SR F Rachel Rodrick scored both goals in WSU's 2-0 win over the Ducks... Rodrick paces the team in scoring with five goals - including three game-winners... She climbed the WSU career charts over the weekend and ranks No. 3 all-time in both goals (23) and points (59) and fifth in assists (13)... Her three game-winners ranks second in the Pac-10 this season.
