Team Heads to Stanford for ITA Regional

THIS WEEK: The Cougars begin play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Oct. 24-27 in Stanford, Calif. Six of the teams the Cougars will face ended last season on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Top 75 list. Stanford, California, and the Washington finished in the top six. The other schools that finished nationally ranked are Fresno State, Oregon, and Sacramento State.
HART ON THIS WEEKEND: 'We have a tough weekend ahead of us and we are looking forward to the level of competition this regional offers,' Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said.
UP NEXT: The Cougars will not compete again until the Pac-10 Indoor Championships in Seattle beginning January 18.
LAST TIME OUT: Washington State sent four players to the All-American Invitational in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Oct. 4-9. Freshman Amy Toth paired with junior Orsolya Sallai in doubles prequalifying competition and were knocked out by Vanderbilt's Annie Meenes and Audra Falk. Sallai was also knocked out of singles competition after falling first to No. 36 Jessica Roland of Texas A&M and then in consolation play to Georgia's Shadisha Robinson. Cougar pair Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez were defeated in the first round of qualifying play, then enjoyed a second round consolation berth when an Arizona pair withdrew. They then lost to Wake Forest duo Karia Coetzee and Katie Martzolf.
COUGARS IN THE RANKINGS: The WSU Cougars finished last season at No. 51 in the ITA rankings. Junior Orsolya Sallai is ranked No. 78 in the ITA preseason poll. Senior Lorena Arias and junior Chris Martinez are ranked No. 40 in doubles.
