UA's Daniel Andrus Advances in Fall Championship

CARSON, Calif. - The Arizona men's tennis team completed the second day of the Omni Hotel Region VIII South Fall Championship, Oct. 24, in Carson, Calif. The Wildcats fielded three men in back draw singles competition and two teams in the doubles main draw.

Arizona earned two victories in the second round of the back draw. Junior Colin O'Grady defeated Leo Basica of UC Santa Barbara, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Daniel Andrus earned a victory over Jon Endrikat of UC Irvine, 6-7, 6-2, 11-9. Senior Carl Hagman fell to Ryusuke Kashiwabara of UC Irvine, 6-4, 7-6.

In the third round of the back draw, Andrus beat Nic Beuque of San Diego, 6-2, 6-3. The victory places Andrus in the quarterfinals of the back draw against Daniel Jung of San Diego State.

In the doubles main draw, Andrus and junior Paul Warkentin defeated the No. 5-seeded team of Johan Berg and Drew Hoskins of USC in the round of 16, by a score of, 8-3. O'Grady and Hagman fell to the No. 1-seeded Jon Endrikat and Brian Morton of UC Irvine, 8-2

In the quarterfinals, the pair fell to the No. 3-seeded Scott Doerner and Calle Hansen of Pepperdine, 8-6.

Arizona will take the courts again Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Omni Hotel Region VIII Championships, in Carson, Calif., as Daniel Andrus is scheduled to compete in the quarterfinals of the back draw. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
