Bruins Run Past ASU, 20-13

PASADENA, Calif. - Freshman Maurice Drew rushed for 176 yards andbrought UCLA from behind with an 83-yard touchdown run Saturday night as theBruins beat Arizona State 20-13.
UCLA (6-2, 4-0 Pac-10) won its fifth in a row and remained tied withWashington State for the conference lead.
Matt Moore, back as the UCLA starter after being hurt in the season opener,threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Craig Bragg in the first quarter.
The rest of the Bruins' points came on a pair of field goals by JustinMedlock, the last a 44-yarder in the fourth quarter to end the scoring.
The Sun Devils (4-4, 1-3) played most of the last three quarters withoutquarterback Andrew Walter, who apparently hurt his right ankle early in thesecond quarter.
Freshman Sam Keller, who had thrown only 12 passes previously - with sixcompletions and an interception - for the Sun Devils, came on for their secondseries of the second quarter.
Keller was constantly pressured by the UCLA defense and finished 11-of-21for 79 yards.
Loren Wade gained 113 yards on 19 carries for the Sun Devils, including a61-yard run for their only touchdown.
Moore went 14-of-28 for 190 yards, with the one touchdown and twointerceptions, both when he was hit as he threw.
Drew, who carried 18 times, scored in the third quarter when he broke offleft tackle, darted to the outside and outran safety Riccardo Stewart to theend zone.
The 83-yard run by the 5-foot-8, 200-pound Drew was the longest by a truefreshman in UCLA history.
Medlock kicked his 44-yarder with 8:09 remaining to give the Bruins aseven-point lead.
Jesse Ainsworth's second field goal, a 33-yarder 29 seconds before halftime,had put the Sun Devils up 13-10.
Wade had drawn ASU even with his long scoring run earlier in the secondquarter, the Sun Devils' third play with Keller at quarterback.
With the UCLA defense stacked to stop the run on third-and-1 at the ASU 39,Wade burst through the line and into the open, with no defenders anywhere nearhim as he sprinted down the field.
UCLA went in front 10-3 late in the first quarter on Moore's pass to Bragg,who made a spectacular leaping catch in front of ASU cornerback R.J. Oliver inthe left corner of the end zone.
Medlock put the Bruins on the board first with a 41-yard field goal afterBragg turned a short pass into a 52-yard gain on UCLA's first offensive play ofthe game.
Ainsworth made a 27-yarder later in the first quarter.
After playing the first series of the second quarter, Walter had his rightankle heavily taped and appeared to be limping slightly as he tried to loosenup along the sidelines.
Moore moved back in front of Drew Olson on the Bruins' depth chart thisweek. Olson went 5-1 in his starts.
UCLA and Arizona State weren't scheduled last year. The Bruins beat the SunDevils 52-42 in a 2001 shootout at the Rose Bowl.
