Stanford Women Defeat Texas

Stanford's women's swimming and diving team defeated Texas, 188-165, in LosAngeles, edging a tough Longhorn squad in a two-day short-course metersmeet that finished Saturday (Oct. 25) on USC's campus.

USC also competed against Texas, defeating it 169-165.

Stanford started out right with a win in the 200m medley relay before milerMorgan Hentzen won the 1500m free in 16:35.07. Teammate Lauren Costella wasbehind her in 16:38.43.

Lacey Boutwell won the 200m free in 1:59.51 (an NCAA automatic qualifyingtime).

Texas's Elizabeth Wycliffe and Sarah Wanezek went 1-2 in the 100m back, butthe Cardinal's Tara Kirk (1:08.57, NCAA automatic) and Kristen Caverly(1:10.49) came back to do the same in the 100m breast.

Dana Kirk won the 200m fly in 2:12.00 and teammate Laura Davis was secondin 2:14.60. Texas' Wanezek won the 50m free in 25.96, barely edgingBoutwell, second in 25.98.

Caverly (2:15.25) and Davis (2:18.25) pulled off another one-two finish inthe 200m IM.

Texas won the 400m free relay in 3:47.62, ahead of Stanford's quartet ofBoutwell, Desiree Stahley, Lisa Falzone and Dana Kirk (3:48.24).

Texas' Ali Hartzell won the 3-meter with 477.35. Stanford's AshleeRosenthal was second with 468.25.
