USC's Torres, UCLA's Clemens To Compete For Regional Championship

CARSON, Calif. - With two victories apiece on Saturday at the Home Depot Center, USC men's tennis senior Ruben Torres and UCLA's Tobias Clemens advanced to the final round of the ITA West Regional Championship. The pair will face each other for the main draw singles title on Sunday at 11 a.m., with the winner earning an automatic bid to the ITA National Intercollegiate Championships in November.
Torres, a 9-16 seed who recorded two upset victories during his tournament run, captured a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over UCLA's Kris Kwinta in Saturday's quarterfinal. Torres then defeated Scott Doerner of Pepperdine, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinal.
The top-seeded and No. 3-ranked Clemens made his way to the finals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over San Diego State's Felix Hardt in the quarterfinals and a 7-6, 6-2 win over Pepperdine's Pedro Rico in the semifinals.
The Trojans' Drew Hoskins was eliminated Saturday with a 6-4, 6-2 quarterfinal loss to Rico.
