Cardinal Freshman Advances to Singles Semifinals

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford freshman Anne Yelsey will advance to the semifinals at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Monday after defeating teammate Emilia Anderson in the quarterfinals. The Cardinal duos of Erin Burdette/Lauren Barnikow, Theresa Logar/Story Tweedie-Yates and Anderson/Yelsey will be seen in doubles semifinals.

Yelsey downed Anderson 6-4, 6-3 to advance in the main draw on Sunday.

Top-seeded Burdette and Barnikow took the win over Washingtons's No. 5-seed pair of Claire Carter and Dea Sumantri 8-5. The Cardinal duo will face teammates Logar and Tweedie-Yates in the semifinals. Logar and Tweedie-Yates defeated Stanford's Alice Barnes and Joanna Kao 8-6 to remain in championship action.

Stanford's Anderson-Yelsey duo won 8-2 against Washington State's sixth-seeded Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez in the quarterfinal round. Anderson and Yelsey will face No. 2 seed Raqual Kops-Jones and Sasha Podkolzina in the semifinals.

In singles quarterfinal action, Podkolzina defeated Barnikow 6-3, 6-1.
