WALNUT CREEK, Calif.- California outside hitter Mia Jerkov has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 20-26, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Jerkov, a junior from Split, Croatia, led Cal to a pair of road victories at Washington State and No. 10 Washington. She finished with a combined 52 kills (5.78 kpg), 34 digs (3.78) and four service aces. Against Washington State, who the Bears had not defeated since Sept. 16, 1989, Jerkov helped Cal snap a 13-match losing streak to WSU with a team-high 29 kills, 20 digs, and a .338 hitting percentage. The following night at Washington, she had 23 kills, 14 digs, and two service aces.
The two road wins marked the first time the Bears had swept the Washington schools, both home and on the road, since the 1989 season.
Jerkov has now been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week four times this season. The career leader among active players, Jerkov now has five player of the week honors all-time. She is Cal's 19th player of the week all-time.
