Washington's Brett Wiesner Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- WASHINGTON junior forward Brett Wiesner has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 21-27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Wiesner, from Brookfield, Wis., scored the game-winning goal in Washington's 1-0 win over Gonzaga (Oct. 26). He headed in a corner kick from senior Troy Ready to score the match's only goal at 12:44 into the first half. Wiesner led all players in the match with a total of eight shots.

Wiesner, Washington's leading scorer a year ago, scored his first goal of the season against Gonzaga. Due to injury, he had played in only five games, and has started just one prior to the Gonzaga match.

With the one-goal victory Washington moved up to No. 8 in the Soccer America poll, and are No. 25 in the NSCAA/Adidas Coaches' poll. The Huskies are now 7-0-1 against non-conference opponents this year.

This is Wiesner's first weekly honor, and the eighth all-time player of the week honor for the Huskies.

Also Nominated: Chad Barrett, Fr., F, UCLA.
