Husky Golfers Return to Links at The Prestige
Nov. 2, 2003
Seattle - The 18th-ranked Washington men's golf team plays its fourth tournament of its fall season this week when the Huskies travel to Palm Springs, Calif. for The Prestige at PGA West. The 54-hole event will be held Nov. 3-4 at the par-72, 6,841-yard LaQuinta Resort Mountain Golf Course. The fourth-annual event's format includes a field of the nation's top academic and golf-playing universities. The tournament is co-hosted by Stanford and UC Davis.
The tournament format calls for 36 holes of play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
This year's tournament features a 15-team field including Texas Christian, the defending champions. Last year Washington tied Kansas for sixth-place after winning the event in 2001. The Jayhawks' Chris Marshall won the tournament at 9-under 207. Brock Mackenzie was the Huskies top finisher at 12th place with a 1-over 217.
Mackenzie enters The Prestige ranked third in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. He was the nation's top-ranked player two weeks ago before placing fourth at The Nelson with a 9-under 204. All six rounds Mackenzie has played this season have included below-par scores.
In addition to Stanford, UC Davis and TCU, this year's field includes BYU, Northwestern, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, UCLA, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Yale and Pacific.
