Four Arizona Women's Tennis Players to Compete this Week

ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships: Junior Dianne Hollands will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to compete in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, the second of three national championships for collegiate tennis this season. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Michigan at its Varsity Tennis Center and is the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournaments for Division I men and women. Hollands was chosen to compete as an at-large selection. The tournament will take place on November 6-9.
Riviera/ ITA Women's All-American Chamionships: In the first national championship event in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Hollands advanced through the qualifying round and into the main draw action before losing to No. 6 ranked Alice Barnes from Stanford in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(5).
Fall Desert Classic: Three other Arizona women's tennis players will compete in the Fall Desert Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. Senior Debbie Larocque, junior Kelly Perry, and junior Kelly Duncan will make the trip.
Last Season at the Fall Desert Classic: In 2002 Larocque reached the quarterfinals before losing to UCLA's Jackie Carlton. After losing in the round of 32, Perry went on to win the consolation bracket . Duncan did not in the Fall Desert Classic last year. The pair of Perry and Hollands won the doubles title. Junior Dianne Hollands won the tournament in 2002, but will be competing this week in Michigan for a national title.
Last Time Out: The Wildcats last competed in San Diego, Calif. at the ITA Women's West Regionals. Hollands advanced through the tournament to the quarterfinals before the tournament was cancelled due to wildfires in the Southern California area. The doubles team of Perry and Hollands had also advanced to the quarterfinals before the cancellation. Junior Maja Mlakar and sophomore Iza Ferreira were forced to withdraw in the middle of last week's action due to injury.
