Women's Golf Advances To Second Round At Hooters Match Play Championship

Myrtle Beach, SC - The No. 14 USC women's golf team finished 11th at the Hooters Match Play Championship held Sunday-Tuesday at the Barefoot Resort.
USC had a 1-2 record in head-to-head matchups against other teams in the tourney. The Women of Troy defeated California in the first round, 2-2-1, but fell to Auburn in round two, 3-2. USC then fell in the winners' consolation bracket to Arizona, 3.5-1.5.
In the first round against California, senior Anna Rawson picked up a 5 and 3 win over Danielle Nash, while freshman Stephanie Hickerson defeated Anna Temple, 4 and 3. Sophomore Irene Cho fell to Sarah Huarte, 2 and 1, while senior Rachel Bell lost to Sophia Sheridan, 4 and 3. Freshman Veronica Felibert's match with Clair Dury was halved, 2-2.
In the second round against Arizona, Cho picked up a win for USC a 1 up decision over Lani Elston, while Felibert again halved against Whitney Welch, 4-4. Arizona's Mar Garcia defeated Allison Schauppner, 3 and 2, Miriam Kraschinski defeated Rawson, 1 up, and Erica Blasberg defeated Bell, 3 and 2.
In the winner's consolation against Auburn, Cho won 1 up and Felibert won 4 and 2, while Rawson fell, 3-2, Bell lost, 5-4, and Hickerson lost 2 and 3.
Duke outlasted Georgia in a playoff to win the match play championship.
