Nov. 6, 2003
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford University senior Abe Geiger and junior James Twellman were named to the CoSida District VIII All-Academic Men's Soccer First Team on Thursday. Stanford joins UCLA and UC Santa Barbara as the only teams with two representatives on the All-Academic First Team.
Geiger, who was elected as a team captain for the third straight season by his teammates, has started the last 65 games for the Cardinal. During his tenure on The Farm, the East Lansing, MI native has been a standout performer in the midfield and an anchor on defense for the Cardinal. Geiger is not only a strong performer on the field but also an excellent student in the classroom, maintaining a 3.31 overall grade point average in Political Science. Geiger is no stranger to academic awards, earning Second Team Pac-10 All-Academic honors in his sophomore and junior seasons.
Twellman is also no stranger to athletic and academic success. The Chesterfield, MO native earned First Team Pac-10 All-Academic honors and was named an Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 selection as a sophomore in 2002. This year, Twellman currently holds a 3.73 grade point average in International Relations in the classroom, while scoring three goals and adding three assists as an integral starter for the Cardinal.
