Kenechi Udeze Named A Finalist For Hendricks Award

Junior Kenechi Udeze has been named 1 of 6 finalists for the Ted Hendricks Award, given to the nation's top collegiate defensive end.
Udeze, a 3-year starter, leads No. 2-ranked USC with 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss this season. He also has 37 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, 2 deflections and a blocked field goal. He currently is tied for fourth nationally in sacks (1.2, second in Pac-10), tied for seventh in forced fumbles (0.4, first in Pac-10) and tied for ninth in tackles for loss (1.8, second in Pac-10). He is the first Trojan with double digits in sacks since Willie McGinest in 1992 (16). In the past 4 games, Udeze has 8 sacks and 4 forced fumbles. Last year, he set a USC record with his Pac-10 leading 6 forced fumbles (he has 13 forced fumbled fumbles in his career).
Joining him as 2003 Hendricks Award finalists are UCLA's Dave Ball, Oklahoma's Dan Cody, Georgia's David Pollack, TCU's Bo Schobel and Ohio State's Will Smith.
The winner will be announced during the final week of the 2003 bowl season.
