Oregon State Women's Crew Completes Fall Season In Seattle.
SEATTLE, Wash. -
The Oregon State women's crew finished off its fall season with a strong showing at the Head of the Lake Regatta Sunday morning.
All three boats finished in the top 10, with the second varsity eight putting up a third place showing.
The varsity eight finished the race with a time of 17:54.55, which was good for ninth place. Michigan State won the race with a time of 17:18.58. The University of Victoria and the University of Virginia rounded out the top three.
'It was nice to finish the fall season with an improvement from our last race,' OSU coach Charlie Owen said. 'We know that we are not quite where we want to be right now. Our expectations are a little higher than our performance has recently shown.'
The second varsity eight finished third in its race with a time of 18:09.26. The University of Washington won the race with a time of 17:43.08 and the University of Victoria finished second in 18:03.47.
The varsity four finished fifth with a time of 21:14.25. The University of Washington `A' boat won with a time of 19:57.69. Washington's `B' squad, Simon Fraiser, Gonzaga, and OSU rounded out the top five.
This race concludes the fall season for OSU. The Beavers' next race will be March 14th, 2004 when they take on the University of Victoria, British Columbia, in Dexter, Ore.
'We will have four good months of training ahead of us,' Owen said. 'We're confident that we will be much better by the start of spring season.'
