Nov. 12, 2003

MISSION, Kan. - Washington junior midfielder C.J. Klaas has been named one of 15 semfinalists for the prestigious Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced Wednesday.

The winner will be determined through balloting of Division I coaches who are members of the NSCAA, the official voting body of the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy. Three finalists will be announced at the NCAA Men's College Cup to be held the second weekend of December in Columbus, Ohio. Those finalists will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 for a news conference announcing the winner. A banquet that evening will include the formal presentation of the prestigious crystal soccer ball trophy to the winner.

Klaas (Cherry Valley, Ill.) has started 16 games for the Huskies this year, scoring three goals and recording a team-high six assists. He is also tied for second on the team with 12 points. A Soccer America preseason All-American, Klaas was named the offensive MVP at the Portland Nike Invitational, while also garnering tournament MVP honors at the Marquette Invitational.

As a sophomore in 2002, Klaas was selected to the NSCAA All-Far West Region team and earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors. In 2001, Klass was the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and named to Soccer America's All-Freshman team. He was also a second-team All-Pac-10 selection and garnered Pac-10 Player of the Week honors.

The Huskies host Oregon State in both teams' regular season finale, Sun., Nov. 16, at Husky Soccer Field at 2 p.m.
