Stanford's Nicole Powell Named AP Preseason All-American

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford senior forward Nicole Powell has been tabbed a Preseason All-American by the Associated Press as part of a Cardinal women's basketball squad that is ranked No. 6 in the AP poll.
Powell has already been named a to the Wooden Preseason All-America team and is a preseason candidate for the State Farm Wade Trophy. She has earned Kodak First-Team All-America honors each of the last two seasons, is a two-time Naismith National Player of the Year finalist, a three-time First-Team All-Pac-10 selection, a two-time Pac-10 Tournament Most Valuable Player and was named Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2001-02.
Powell has spent three of the last four summers playing for USA Basketball. She helped the U.S. to a silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games, the bronze medal at the 2001 FIBA Junior World Championships and a gold medal at the Women's Junior World Championship Qualifying Tournament.
Last season, Powell averaged 18.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game. She scored in double figures in 21 of 23 games, pulled down 10 or more rebounds 11 times and recorded 10 double-doubles.
