UCLA Signs Two Standouts In Women's Basketball
Nov. 13, 2003
UCLA head women's basketball coach Kathy Olivier announced today the signing of two student-athletes to national letters-of-intent - forward Lindsey Pluimer of San Clemente High School (San Clemente, CA) and guard Lauren Pedersen of Brea-Olinda (Brea, CA) High School. Each will enter UCLA in the fall of 2004 as a freshman and become members of the 2004-2005 Bruin team.
Pluimer, a 6-3 forward, is considered by some publications to be one of the top 35 recruits in the nation. She was chosen the Southern Section Division I-A Player of the Year last season and has been selected to the 2003-04 Street and Smith's 6th team All-America squad. She attended the Nike All-America camp in both 2002 and 2003. Pluimer averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots while leading her team to a 26-4 record and its third consecutive Division I title last season as a junior. This past summer, she was selected to participate in the USA Youth Development Festival in Colorado Springs, CO.
Pedersen, a 5-10 guard, was a All-CIF Southern Section and Division II-A first-team pick last season after averaging 13.9 points, four rebounds, 5.2 assists, 4.6 steals and 1.3 blocks. She was named an honorable mention Street and Smith's All-American for 2003-04. Pedersen, an outstanding perimeter shooter, has been ranked as one of the top 60 recruits in the nation by one publication.
'We have landed a couple of local Southern California players who bring a great deal of talent and promise to the table,' said Olivier. 'They come from winning programs, and each brings a number of positive intangibles to our team in addition to their outstanding playing ability. We competed with many of the other top programs across the country and were able to keep these prospects home. We have now put together our third straight top-level recruiting class, which makes me very excited about the future of UCLA basketball. These two players will add a great deal more to that excitement.'
