Cal Routs EA Sports, 86-49

BERKELEY - Senior Amit Tamir led four players in double figures with 18 points, as California routed EA Sports, 86-49, Friday night at Haas Pavilion in the Golden Bears' second and final exhibition game.

In addition to Tamir, who also had 11 rebounds, freshman forward Leon Powe added 16 points, sophomore guard Richard Midgley had 11 points and freshman wing Marquise Kately scored 10.

Cal scored the first six points of the game and quickly pulled away. Less than five minutes into the contest, the Bears were up, 12-2, and the lead reached 18 points at 35-17 at the half.

Cal opened the second half on a 9-0 run, with Powe scoring six points and Tamir five, to stretch the gap to 46-19.

Head coach Ben Braun was able to play all 16 players on the roster. Sophomore center Rod Benson scored eight points in just six minutes, while David Paris had five points, three rebounds and two assists.

The Bears shot an even 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded EA Sports, 48-34, including, 27-12 in the second half.

Former Arizona forward Rick Anderson paced EA Sports with 17 points before fouling out.

Cal opens the regular season Friday, Nov. 21 against Cal Poly at 8 p.m.
