Nov. 14, 2003
Freshman Larsen Jensen won two races and senior Nicci Fusaro won twice on the springboard to lead a handful of Trojan individual victories, but it wasn't enough as the Arizona men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept the Trojans in longcourse meters dual-meet action in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday (Nov. 14).
The Wildcat women's team won, 133-110, while the men's team won 131-111. USC's women fall to 1-1 while the men are 0-2.
Jensen won both the 400m (4:04.25) and 800m (8:20.99) freestyles to lead the Trojans, who also got wins from sophomore Ous Mellouli in the 200m free (1:53.21), junior Paul Fahey in the 200m IM (2:08.72) and senior co-captain Trent Staley in the 200m back (2:06.59).
Mellouli's win in the 200m free was part of a 1-2-3 finish for the Trojans. Jensen was second in 1:57.41 while sophomore Tyler Panos was third (1:58.43). Freshman Sam Masson finished right behind Staley in the 200m back, taking second in 2:11.17.
Freshman Kalyn Keller won the 800m free in 8:49.71 for the women, the best swim of the day for the Trojans. Her time was less than two seconds off of the school record set by Lindsay Benko (8:47.74). Keller was also second in the 200m free (2:05.18).
Both the USC men and women will compete at Arizona State on Saturday at 11 a.m..
