Washington's Ty Harden Named Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Nov. 18, 2003
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Washington freshman defender Ty Harden has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 11-17, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Harden, from Junction City, Ore., helped the Husky defense shut down Oregon State, 1-0, in both teams' regular season finale on November 16. Harden, who has started all 18 of Washington's games this season, marked Beaver forward Alan Gordon, who was limited to just one shot. Entering the match, Gordon had scored six goals in the previous three games against the Huskies, dating back to last season.
The win also snapped a three-game losing streak for UW against OSU, and prevented the Beavers from notching a school-record 14th victory. Oregon State came into the match averaging 2.2 goals per game.
The shutout was the sixth of the year for Washington (12-4-2 overall, 5-4-1 Pac-10), which earned the No. 10 seed and a first-round bye in this year's NCAA Tournament. The Huskies will host the winner of the first-round game between Portland and Oregon State, Nov. 26 in Seattle.
This is the first Player of the Week honor for Harden and Washington's ninth such honor all-time.
