Day Two Results From UCI Speedo Cup

Irvine, Calif. - The Stanford men's swimming team extended its lead at the UCI Speedo Cup on day two of competition in Irvine, Calif. The Cardinal now have 1,322 points, outdistancing BYU, who is in second with 672. Rounding out the top five schools are CSU Bakersfield (621.5), UC San Diego (379) and UC Irvine (340).
Stanford began the day with a victory in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:28.63. Markus Rogan followed with a win in the 400 IM in a time of 3:48.07. Teammate Tobias Oriwol was second (3:55.46) followed by freshman Shaun Phillips (3:56.14) who took third.
Jayme Craymer garnered top honors in the 100 butterfly turning in a time of 47.86. Matt McDonald placed third in a time of 48.49. The next event was the 200 freestyle where freshman Andy Grant claimed first (1:37.27) while teammate Ben Wildman-Tobriner finished third (1:39.84).
Gary Marshall won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 55.51, followed by Ricky Eddy, who clocked in at 55.78. The 100 backstroke was won by Peter Marshall in 46.96 as teammate Hongzhe Sun placed second in 48.73. Matt McDonald finished third (50.35) for the Cardinal.
In the final event of the day, Stanford once again took top honors as the Cardinal 800 freestyle relay team won in a time of 6:31.35.
Action concludes tomorrow at the UCI Speedo Cup.
