No. 9 Cal Volleyball Defeats Oregon, 3-0

BERKELEY, CA - The No. 9 ranked Cal volleyball team (21-6, 12-6) defeated Oregon (3-24, 0-18), 3-0 (30-27, 30-11, 30-13) Friday evening at Haas Pavilion. With the victory over the Ducks, the Bears captured a school-record 12 Pac-10 matches, surpassing the former record of 11 set in 1987. Oregon has now lost 24 straight conference matches.
Cal was paced by junior All-American Mia Jerkov's 15 kills and 12 kills from sophomore outside hitter Jenna Brown. Jerkov also added a team-high five service aces and Brown had a team-high six block assists. It was the final regular season home match for five of the Bears' graduating seniors - Lisa Collette, Heather Diers, Jenna Grigsby, Ashleigh Turner and Jessica Zatica. Zatica played exceptionally well in game two, recording seven kills with no errors in 13 attempts. Cal out-hit the Ducks, .400 to .142.
The Bears had to battle to win game one. Cal trailed the entire first game until a service ace by freshman setter Samantha Carter tied the contest, 23-23. The Bears finally got their first lead at 26-25 on a kill by Brown, and then broke away from a 27-27 tie on blocks by Brown and Alicia Powers. Junior middle hitter Camille Leffall finally put the Ducks away on back-to-back service aces for the 30-27 win.
Cal dominated the next two games, winning 30-11 and 30-13. Oregon was led by sophomore Kelly Russell's 11 kills.
The Bears will next travel to the Long Beach State Baden Thanksgiving Tournament, facing Texas Christian, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m., and host Long Beach State, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. Cal will then find out details of NCAA postseason play on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. PST.
