Washington Volleyball Sweeps Arizona State

TUCSON, Ariz. - Washington head volleyball coach Jim McLaughlin captured his 50th career win at UW with a 3-0 sweep over Arizona State as the Huskies closed out the Pac-10 season with a 10-8 mark. Tonight's win ties UW with Arizona for fifth place in the conference and lifts Washington to a 19-8 overall record. Game scores were 32-30, 30-26, 30-21.

Sanja Tomasevic led both teams with 20 points, including a match-high 17 kills and .368 hitting percentage. Sophomore Brie Hagerty chipped in 12 kills in the winning effort.

The Huskies led by as many as six points in game one (16-10) but the Sun Devils battled back to knot the score at 23-all. ASU fought off two game-points before a service error and an attack error gave UW the 32-30 win.

Washington headed into the break with a 2-0 lead after a 30-26 win in game two. With the score tied at 10-all the Huskies began to pull away, building a four-point lead at 15-11 with three kills by Hagerty and another kill by setter Courtney Thompson. Tomasevic put the game away, pounding seven kills in 13 swings.

The Huskies out hit the Sun Devils .308 to .081 in game three to pick up the 30-21 victory. Tomasevic and Hagerty each tallied six kills in the game with Hagerty hitting .538.

Libero Candace Lee finished the match with 16 digs, while Thompson and Libba Lawrence each logged nine.

Washington returns to Seattle for its final match of the regular season next week. The Huskies play host to Utah Valley State on Tues., Nov. 25 with first serve set for 7 p.m.
