Nov. 24, 2003
TUCSON, Ariz.- School records continued to fall as the No. 21-ranked Arizona volleyball team swept Northern Arizona in three games at McKale Center on Monday. Game scores were 30-22, 30-19, 30-20. The win, Arizona's season-high fifth straight, improved the Wildcats to 17-13 overall. NAU, which closed out its season with the loss, fell to 13-16.
Sophomore Kim Glass further solidified her grip on the Arizona history book with her single season record 29th match with 10 or more kills against the Lumberjacks on Monday and classmate Bre Ladd etched her name into the single match record book with a school-best .765 hitting percentage in the contest.
As a team, Arizona controlled throughout. The Wildcats hit .356 in the three frames, while limiting NAU to a .097 attack percentage. UA posted to 54 kills to NAU's 31 and out-blocked them six to two.
Individually, Glass set the record for most matches with double digit kills with an even 10, including five in the game one victory, and also added a match-high 12 digs. Ladd's nearly flawless effort on offense enabled her to finish with a match-high 14 kills on 17 swings with just one error. She also added three total blocks and a service ace. Sophomore classmate Jennifer Abernathy chipped in with 12 kills and seven digs.
Senior Kelly Griffin-Halfaker and freshman Stephanie Butkus split the setting duties and dished out 23 and 22 assists, respectively.
Arizona will close out its regular season this Saturday with a road match against No. 22 UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos defeated the Wildcats 3-1 earlier this season in Tucson. First serve is set for 8 pm MST.
