Husky Men's Golf Team Signs Three

Seattle - Washington men's golf coach Matt Thurmond announced that three high school seniors have signed national letters of intent and will compete for the Husky golf team this fall. The trio includes Zach Bixler of Richland, Sterling Clark of Salt Lake City and Joe Panzeri of Boise.
Last season Bixler helped Richland to the Class 4A state championship. He placed third in the individual results during the state tournament. Bixler was the Big Nine Conference and Tri-City Herald All-Area MVP. He won the 2003 Big Nine district title. Last summer he reached the second round of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. He won the 16-17 division of the Washington State Amateur in 2003 and was the Tri-City Junior champion in 2002. Bixler is a member of Meadow Spring Country Club.
Clark helped East High School to its third consecutive Utah state Class 4A championship last season. He was sixth in the state prep tournament as a junior, second as a sophomore and fourth as a freshman. He was named the 2003 Utah Junior Golfer of the Year after winning the Utah Junior Golf Association's point championship. He reached the semifinals of the Utah Amateur championship last summer, was fifth at the Utah Open as the low amateur and finished third at the Junior Americas Cup competition. He qualified for the 2002 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and won the boys 13-14 division at the 1999 Junior World Championships.
Panzeri reached the quarterfinals of the 2003 U.S. Junior Amateur championship. He won Idaho's 2002 Eddie Hogan Cup and was second at the state's 2003 Junior Americas Cup. He tied for first at the 2002 IGA Juniors Championship but lost a playoff for medalist honors. Panzeri was second at the 2003 IGAJ State Junior Championship. He has helped Meridian High School to back-to-back Class 5A state titles in 2002 and 2003 and was a member of the team's Class A1 state title in 2001.
