Oregon State Outlasts IPFW 57-55

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - David Lucas had 25 points and four steals as OregonState beat Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 57-55 on Saturday.
J.S. Nash added 14 points for the Beavers (2-1).
David Simon had 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting and pulled down 11 reboundsfor the Mastodons (0-3).
With IPFW leading 51-50, Chris Stephens scored for the Beavers with 1:01remaining. Jim Kessenich was called for traveling on the other end, and LamarHurd made two free throws to make it 54-51 Beavers.
Tyler Clevenger made the first of two free throws, but missed the second.Lucas was fouled on the rebound and made one of two free throws to make it55-51. Terry Collins hit a 3-pointer with 7.8 seconds for the Mastodons. Nashhit two foul shots to clinch it for the Beavers.
The Mastodons led 24-20 after a slow and sloppy first half. Oregon Stateshot 6-of-25 (24 percent) from the field and IPFW was just 2-of-12 on3-pointers. The Mastodons led 20-11 at 4:03 in the first half, but Lucas scoredthe Beavers' next eight points, including 6-of-6 free throws. Oregon State wenton a 10-4 run to close out the half.
IPFW led 32-27 when Nash put together a three-point play at 15:32 in thesecond half to close the gap. Oregon State went inside twice to Lucas and tookthe lead 35-34 at 12:19. The Beavers increased the lead to three points, butIPFW went on a 10-0 run from there.
But the Mastodon's motion offense broke down, failing to score for nearlyfive minutes. Oregon State went on a 9-0 run to take a 46-44 lead.
IPFW outrebounded the Beavers 40-28. The Beavers shot 50 percent in thesecond half.
