Giuliana Mendiola Named Pac-10 Player of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Washington senior guard Giuliana Mendiola has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 24-30, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Mendiola, from Lake Forest, Calif., averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists to lead Washington to victories over Gonzaga (Nov. 28) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 29), en route to capturing the Seattle Times Husky Classic title. Mendiola was named Tournament MVP, becoming the first-ever three-time recipient of the award at the Seattle Times Husky Classic.
In the Huskies' 89-65 win over Oklahoma State in the championship game, Mendiola scored a season-high 30 points, shooting 10-of-15 from the field (.667), 4-of-4 from three-point range and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists. In UW's first-round win over Gonzaga (70-56), she scored 22 points, while adding six boards and six assists. Her performances last week moved her into 10th-place on Washington's all-time scoring list (1,346 pts). She also helped UW improve its home winning streak to 16 games.
Washington (4-0 overall, 0-0 Pac-10) hosts 17th-ranked Notre Dame Sunday at 1 p.m. It will be the Huskies' first game against a ranked opponent this season.
The Player of the Week honor is the fifth for Mendiola and the 22nd all-time selection for Washington.
