WSU to Compete in U.S. Open, Invitational

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's swim team will head to two different competitions this weekend...eight Cougars head to Federal Way, Wash., to compete in the U.S. Open...the competition is in long course meters to prepare for the Olympic year...the meet will feature 15 Olympians, along with 800 other entries from clubs and universities...former WSU standout, Lindsay Henahan will compete in the meet...competition begins Thursday, Dec. 4 and continues through Saturday, Dec. 6...prelims begin at 9 a.m. each day, with finals at 6 p.m.
The rest of the team will compete in the Central Washington University Wildcat Invitational Friday, Dec. 5 through Sunday, Dec. 7...the Cougs will face Washington, University of Puget Sound, and Central, among others...prelims begin at 10 a.m. each day, with finals at 5 p.m.
'Our team is participating in two different meets this coming weekend,' WSU Head Coach Erica Quam said. 'Both groups will get an opportunity for some fast swimming and great competition.'
LAST WEEK: The Cougars didn't compete last week...WSU fell to Washington, 162-97 at Seattle, Friday, Nov. 21.
COACH QUAM: WSU Head Coach Erica Quam is in her second season as the women's swimming coach.
THIS SEASON: The Cougars added 12 newcomers to the 10 returning letter winners...WSU has a record of 1-3 in dual meets this season.
ACADEMICS: WSU finished third in the nation academically spring semester 2003 (3.5)...Cougars finished second in the fall of 2002 with a GPA of 3.533.
UP NEXT: The Cougars take the rest of December off before heading to Los Angeles, Wednesday, Jan. 7, to face the Bruins of UCLA...competition begins at 1 p.m.
