Stanford's Powell Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- STANFORD senior forward Nicole Powell has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 8-14, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 24.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in a home split over the weekend, defeating Pacific 86-25, and dropping a 70-66 overtime thriller to No. 2 Tennessee. On the week, she shot 43.2 percent from the floor (19-of-44) and 36.8 percent (7-of-19) from three-point range.
In the win over Pacific on Dec. 12, Powell scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. In the losing effort to the Lady Vols on Dec. 14th, Powell recorded her 33rd career double-double, and fourth double-double on the year, tallying a season-high 32 points and 16 rebounds.
The loss to Tennessee broke Stanford's six-game winning streak and marks their only loss on the year, giving the Cardinal an overall record of 6-1.
The Player of the Week honor is Powell's sixth and the 28th all-time selection for Stanford.
