Bruins Come Back To Defeat Oregon State

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Freshman Trevor Ariza scored 20 of his career-high 24points in the second half and UCLA rallied to beat Oregon State 77-66 Fridaynight in both teams' Pac-10 opener.
The Bruins (5-3) appeared listless and trailed by 10 points to start thesecond half when Ariza sparked them. He scored their first six points of thehalf, followed Janou Rubin's 3-pointer with a dunk, then hit consecutive3-pointers to give the Bruins a 47-42 lead.
UCLA point guard Cedric Bozeman left the game after playing 12 minutesbecause of an abdominal strain. He returned with 13:23 left in the second halfand assisted on Ariza's fastbreak layin that capped 10 straight points by theBruins.
Rubin scored all of his career-high 13 points in the second half to help theBruins win their fourth straight conference opener. His 3-pointer gave UCLA a56-46 lead with 11 minutes remaining.
The Beavers got back in the game on eight straight points to pull to 56-55.But Rubin reignited the Bruins with four consecutive points, Ariza and RyanHollins scored inside baskets, then Rubin hit his third 3-pointer for a 67-57lead with 3:50 remaining.
UCLA shot 67 percent in the second half, despite the offensive woes ofBozeman and junior Dijon Thompson, who averages 15.6 points. Bozeman had threepoints and Thompson finished with six - his worst game in two years. He onlyhad two points until scoring the Bruins' last two baskets in the final minute.
Chris Stephens led Oregon State with 16 points and David Lucas added 13.
The Beavers (6-5) lost their ninth straight Pac-10 opener. They ended a14-game losing streak at Pauley Pavilion last season, the first time they sweptthe Los Angeles schools since 1988.
The Beavers shot 50 percent in the first half when the Bruins hit just 38percent.
