Bruin Diving Recap from the Georgia Invitational

Coach Tom Stebbins' Bruin diving squad competed at the Georgia Diving Invitational, held January 3 - 5, at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, GA. At the Invitational, the Bruins competed on one- and three-meter springboard, platform, and the Bulldog Shoot-Out.
On the first day of competition, the Bruins competed on one-meter springboard. Sophomores Paige Thompson and Amanda Blong each advanced to the finals. Thompson placed fifth, scoring 252.45 points, and Blong was sixth with 251.40 points. In the prelims, sophomore Sara Clark was 18th, with 204.40 points and junior Janine Strack was 19th with 203.45 points.
Following the diving competition, the Top-6 divers competed in the head-to-head One-Meter Bulldog Shoot-Out. Thompson finished fourth, advancing to the third round, and Blong placed fifth after exiting in the second round.
The second day of competition saw some of the top Bruin performances of the season. Competing on three-meter, Thompson placed fifth in the final with 472.15 points. In the preliminary round, she scored a school record breaking 525.20 points. She received a pair of nines on her reverse two and a half somersault dive, scoring the highest points in the round. Blong placed seventh in the finals with 433.00 points, scoring three eights on her 305C dive. Clark also competed in the finals, scoring 430.80 points and qualifying for the Zone Championships. And, Strack finished 17th overall, scoring 385.55 points in the preliminary round.
On the final day, three Bruin competed on platform. Strack was the highest-placing Bruin, scoring 375.50 points and finishing fourth. With the score, she qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships. Clark placed sixth with 360.55 points. And Blong was 13th with 278.35 points. Former Bruin All-American Regan Gosnell was an exhibition diver and scored 446.25 points.
With Clark and Strack's qualifying score, all of Coach Tom Stebbins' divers have now qualified for the NCAA Zone E Championships.
