CORVALLIS, Ore. - Chelsea Plourde and Tanya Ricioli-Hebron combined for four individual titles as the No. 20 Oregon State gymnastics team defeated Cal State-Fullerton 195.075-191.850 in OSU's home opener at Gill Coliseum on Friday night.
Plourde, a freshman, made the most of her first meet in Gill by winning the vault and all-around titles with scores of 9.80 and 39.225. Ricioli-Hebron, who was second to Plourde in the all-around with a 39.075, won bars with a 9.90 and tied for first with a 9.85 on floor. Fullerton's Nicole Lim and Latoya Milburn also had 9.85 marks on floor, while teammate Brittany Evans won the beam title with a 9.80.
Although the Beavers still had to count a fall on floor, coach Tanya Chaplin was pleased with the progress her team made over the past week after opening the season with a 193.775 at Alabama last week.
'They're doing a great job. We had a few stumbles here and there, and we would love for them to be perfect every time, but we're staying the course,' Chaplin said.
OSU started off with a 48.525 on vault, led by Plourde's first-place 9.80. Thrse Videan scored a 9.75 to tie for second with Fullerton's Kristy Parker, and Angela Morales added a 9.675. The Beavers also counted a pair of 9.65 scores from Annie Campbell and Ricioli-Hebron.
The Beavers swept the top six places on bars, led by Ricioli-Hebron's first-place 9.90. Heidi Goehring, Chrissy Lamun and Videan tied for second with 9.875 scores, with Goehring's mark matching her career-high set last year. Plourde was fifth with a 9.85. Campbell's 9.775, which the Beavers didn't count, was good for sixth place. OSU's 49.375 was more than a point higher than last week's total.
Morales led off the beam team with a team-best 9.775, with Plourde and Campbell closing out the lineup with a pair of 9.75 routines as OSU finished with a 48.650. In between, the Beavers also counted Elaine Yoder's 9.70 and Ricioli-Hebron's 9.675.
Videan got the Beavers off to a strong on floor with a 9.80 to open the rotation, and Plourde followed with a 9.825. Morales hit her double layout and looked be having a strong routine as well until falling on a later tumbling pass to receive a 9.35, which the Beaversended up counting after Lamun fell as well. Campbell closed out the meet with a 9.70.
