Stanford Players Stumble At Sherwood Cup

WESTLAKE, Calif. - It was a tough day for the Stanford University men's tennis team at the Sherwood Cup in Westlake, CA as all six competitors fell on the first day of action. The Stanford players must now battle their way through the consolation round.
Sophomore KC Corkery was defeated by Daniel Sepescan from Cal, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6, while Matias Marian of Baylor University defeated junior Phil Sheng, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6. Jamil Al-Agba of USC defeated Stanford freshman James Wan, 6-2, 6-3, while Carter Morris fell to Kris Kwinta of UCLA, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Sam Warburg suffered a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 setback versus Philip Grudler of UCLA, while James Pade was defeated by Johan Berg of USC, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.
The Cardinal will hope to have more luck in doubles action, which begins Saturday at 9:00 AM (PT). Corkery and Pade, the No. 10 doubles team in the country, will be in action as will Warburg and Morris and Sheng and Chris Rasmussen.
