Bears Reach Out to the Community with Inaugural 'Flip Trip'
Jan. 27, 2004
Berkeley, Calif. - The California women's gymnastics team hosted its inaugural 'Flip Trip' this morning at Haas Pavilion. Members of the 2004 Golden Bears team and coaching staff came together on the main floor at Haas Pavilion and had an opportunity to interact and teach the fundamentals of gymnastics with approximately 400 area youngsters. The event is seen as important way for the Bears to reach out to the community and make gymnastics more fan-friendly.
'The whole idea behind the 'Flip Trip' is to get involved with the community as much as possible,' said coach Cari DuBois. 'We're trying to build gymnastics from a spectator standpoint, making it more fun and community friendly.'
In the future, the Bears hope they can turn this annual event into a fundraising venture.
'This will be great opportunity for sponsorship in the future and the kids loved it,' said DuBois.
Cal's next home meet, where local youth gymnastics teams help out by running scores from the judges to the scorer's table, is this Friday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. against Oregon State.
