STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 5 ranked Stanford University men's tennis team rolled to a 5-1 win over visiting University of Hawaii, Tuesday afternoon at Taube Tennis Center. With the win, the Cardinal improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Warriors fall to 0-5.
Periodic showers delayed action and eventually pushed play indoors. The two teams were unable to play the doubles matches, but were able to squeeze in the singles contests.
In singles competition, junior Sam Warburg rallied to defeat Hawaii's Dalibor Ptak 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, while junior Phil Sheng fell to Ryan Sceats 6-3, 7-6 in No. 2 singles action. Sophomore James Pade cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hawaii's Bryon Weinberg at the No. 3 singles spot, while senior captain Carter Morris collected a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hawaii's Derrick Lajola at No. 4 singles. Freshman James Wan defeated Burke Marold 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while senior Joe Kao rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win over the Warriors' Jaime Migia at No. 6 singles.
The Cardinal will now prepare for the National Team Indoor Championship held in Seattle Washington on Feb. 5-8th. Stanford's next home dual match is on Feb. 14th versus Rice.
