Former Cardinal Salimah Mussani Wins First Professional Event

Phoenix, Ariz. - Former Cardinal golfer Salimah Mussani, of Burlington, Ontario, captured her first professional win this week at the 2004 Vistal Golf Classic in Phoenix, Arizona.
Mussani began the final round two strokes ahead of the field at four under par for two days. Julie Hennessy, of Lewiston, Minnesota, was two strokes in back at two under par, and Mikaela Parmlid, of Gothenberg, Sweden was three strokes back at one under par.
As the final group mad the turn after nine holes, Mussani posted a one under par 35, including three birdies to open her lead by three strokes over Parmlid. With two birdies and one bogie, Parmlid took over second place as Hennessy posted one birdie and a double bogie to shoot 37, one over par.
Mussani had gained a four stroke lead over Parmlid. Holes 15,165,17 turned the tables. Going into the last four holes, Mussani bogied all three holes, while Parmlid went par, birdie, par to come within one stroke of the lead. Starting the 18th hole, Mussani regained her focus on her skills instead of a victory. Both players posted par on the 18th green giving Mussani the championship by one stroke.
Mussani was presented one year playing privileges membership to the Vistal Golf Club, a crystal trophy, and 6,000 dollars for the championship.
