Stanford Drops Hawaii 6-1

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 2 Stanford women's tennis team improved its 2003-04 record to 2-0 after downing Hawaii 6-1 at Taube Tennis Center on Friday. The Cardinal swept doubles action and dropped only one match in singles action.
'We are very happy with where we are at right now at the beginning of the season,' head coach Lele Forood said. 'We are playing at a high level and are looking forward to seeing what we can do at the Team Indoor Championships in Madison against some of the top teams in the nation.'
Stanford only gave up a single game in doubles action to claim the doubles point. Junior Erin Burdette broke into the singles lineup at the No. 1 spot and opened the season with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Rainbow Wahine Lauren Fitzgerald.
Junior Story Tweedie-Yates tallied the first singles point for Stanford with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hawaii's Paige Mainor.
Stanford will next compete at the USTA/ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships at the University of Wisconsin on Feb. 5-8.
