No. 3 Bears Win Sixth Straight at Worth Invitational
March 6, 2004
Fullerton, Calif. - No. 3 California, remained unbeaten at the Worth Invitational, defeating Cal State Northridge, 3-1, and Michigan State, 6-2. It was the Bears fourth win at the Cal State Fullerton hosted tournament and their sixth straight overall, moving their record to 21-2 on the season.
Vicky Galindo had an outstanding day at the plate, going 7-8, with three runs, four RBI, and a grand slam home run.
The Bears struck in the third inning of the first game versus Cal State Northridge. Galindo and Lindsay James both singled and advanced on errors. With Galindo already in and James on third, Kaleo Eldredge homered for the third time this season.
With a 3-0 advantage, Kelly Anderson cruised through six innings, giving up no earned runs, with eight strikeouts. Kristina Thorson relieved Anderson in the seventh to record her second save of the year.
Game two against Michigan State, saw Thorson toe the rubber again. The Bears had another big inning in the second to give the sophomore righthander a comfortable lead.
With the bases juiced with Bears, Galindo found herself in a familiar spot. In last week's NFCA Classic, Galindo, who had one career home run before this season, hit her first career grand slam to help the Bears to a 10-1 win over Texas. She found her power stroke yet again today and sent a shot to right for her second career grand slam.
With four career home runs, half of Galindo's home runs have come with the bases loaded.
Thorson gave up two earned runs in a complete game performance to seize her ninth win. She struck out six and gave up six hits.
Cal looks to wrap up a perfect tournament on Sunday when they take on UC Santa Barbara at 9 a.m. The Golden Bears hold a 7-2 win over the Gauchos Feb. 21 at the UCSB Tournament.
