Women's Tennis Falls to No. 1 Stanford

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 31 Arizona women's tennis team (4-4) took on the No. 1 Stanford Cardinal (13-0) at home on Saturday. The Wildcats lost all three doubles matches and five out of six singles matches for the overall loss, 6-1.
In doubles action, Stanford's Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette defeated freshman Jessie Rochefort and sophomore Iza Ferreira, 8-3. Junior Kelly Perry and senior Debbie Larocque were also unable to come away with a win as they lost to Stanford's Alice Barnes and Amber Liu, 8-5. On court 1, juniors Maja Mlakar and Dianne Hollands also lost 8-5. The pair played against Stanford's team of Lauren Barnikow and Erin Burdette.
Playing in the first position for singles action, Mlakar competed against Amber Liu and lost, 6-0, 6-1. On court 2, Hollands lost to Barnes, 6-1, 6-1. Playing in the third position, Larocque fell to Barnikow, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Kasia Jakowlew lost on court 4 to Logar in two sets, 6-0, 6-4. Playing in the fifth position, freshman Jessie Rochefort was the lone winner for the Cats as her opponent, Emilia Anderson, retired in the middle of the second set. On court 6, junior Kelly Perry was unable to come away with a win against Stanford's Anne Yelsey, 6-0, 6-2.
The Wildcats will next compete Monday March 8 in Austin, Texas against No. 10 Texas. First serve is 5:30 p.m.
