Women's Tennis Hosts No. 5 North Carolina, Tuesday

This Week -- The 13th-ranked USC women's tennis team (7-3, 2-0 Pac-10), coming off Pac-10 victories over UCLA and Oregon, host a difficult nonconference opponent this week, then hits the road for two conference matches. The Women of Troy host fifth-ranked North Carolina (12-1) on Tuesday, March 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Tennis Stadium. USC travels to the desert to face No. 33 Arizona State (3-5) on Friday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m. MST in Tempe, and No. 31 Arizona (4-4) on Saturday, March 13, at noon MST in Tucson. Both matches will count against Pac-10 records.
Streaks On The Line -- North Carolina heads to Los Angeles this week with an eight-match win streak on the line. The Women of Troy have their own three match win streak they look to extend.
Magnani Shines In USC Wins -- Junior Luana Magnani, who has been hampered by a shoulder injury since January, seems to be feeling like her old self again. In USC's wins last week, Magnani upset UCLA's 13th-ranked Jackie Carlton on Wednesday, then beat Oregon's seventh-ranked Daria Panova on Friday.
ITA Ranking Updates -- The Women of Troy dropped from 12th to 13th in the latest ITA rankings released on March 2. In singles, the Trojans' Luana Magnani dropped to No. 72, and in doubles, Magnani and Carine Vermeulen jumped to ninth. Updated team and individual rankings will be released on March 9.
USC vs. North Carolina -- Tuesday's match will be the first-ever meeting between these two teams.
USC vs. Arizona State -- USC is 32-19 all-time against the Sun Devils. Last season, the Women of Troy defeated the Sun Devils 7-0 in Tempe and 6-1 at home.
USC vs. Arizona -- USC is 36-15 all-time against the Wildcats. Last season, the Women of Troy won both contests - 7-0 in Tucson and 4-3 at home.
Recent Results -- After dropping the doubles point, USC rallied to win five singles matches and defeat crosstown rival No. 11 UCLA, 5-2, on March 3 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the win, the Women of Troy completed a season sweep of the Bruins and secured all five points towards the Lexus Gauntlet. On March 5, USC defeated 23rd-ranked Oregon, 7-0, at Marks Tennis Stadium. An upset victory by USC's 72nd-ranked Luana Magnani over Oregon's seventh-ranked Daria Panova highlighted the afternoon. The Women of Troy dropped only one doubles match in the sweeping effort and captured all six singles victories in two sets.
